half-baked theories about Naruto, and a writing update

I'm having temporary issues with all my stories (fanfiction and original) and have spent most of my writing time fiddling with background information and whatnot, and periodically checking to see if any story has deigned to unknot itself in the back of my head when I wasn't looking. So far, no luck. *sigh*

However.

I did manage to squeeze out about 300 words of "Undertow," thus bringing it to a grand total of 1,000. The mechanics of the assassination mission are starting to come clear despite Tsukimaru having no clue what's happening to him. And I kind of chickened out on bringing the squicky stuff on right at the beginning, but I think it actually works better this way: as a slow build, mostly unstated. I need to add more sensory details, though, for atmosphere if nothing else.

I've been thinking about summons, demons (okay, bijuu), and giant animals in Naruto, and it seems to me that the best explanation is a sort of side-dimension to the normal world, wherein some sort of 'demonic' beings or essence existed. They either mimicked animal forms from the normal world, or possessed them, and this leads to animals with funky powers and the intelligence and language of humans. My guess is that the giant animals are the distant descendents of those beings, and have mostly lost any intelligence. Summons are the descendents who still live in the side-dimension. And the bijuu would be, perhaps, the original beings, or ones that grew too powerful and/or went mad.

I dunno. There are holes in that, but I have a persistent feeling that the three phenomena should be linked somehow.

*blink* That's a pretty good theory. And now I feel dumb because I never even thought about anything relating to the demons/summons/giant animals. Huh... *think, think, think*

It came to mind when I was trying to work out whether Sasuke would be able to summon anything into the hell dimension in "Lemonade." Well, and because suddenly, post-timeskip, Akamaru is big enough for Kiba to ride, instead of vice versa, which is just weird and demands explanation.

Oh, yeah, that's right... *hasn't read anything post timeskip*

:/ Hmmm, I think, though, in Akamaru's case, it was growing up being a vessel for charkra. I mean, Kiba was always pumping chakra into him to do those "man-beast" techniques and that would change his system and maybe the inflow of chakra stimulated his growth.

The Inuzuka dogs are supposedly always oversized when they're adults. I don't remember the chapter number in the manga, but there's the part during the Sand/Sound invasion just after the Chuunin exams where the parents start fighting, and Kiba's...sister? Sister, I think, has dogs that are as large as she is.

She's also damn hot, but that's completely beside the point.

The "vessel for chakra" explanation makes sense, though.

The bijuu seem to "simply" be demons, but also seems to be open for interpretation. There's certainly not a canon explanation for them, so I completely understand your frustration.

Summoned creatures seem to be from a separate dimension, but I don't remember if that's canon or fanon. I honestly don't remember where I read "separate dimension" from. There's certainly a case to be made for the animals being from the same world as where they're summoned to, since we know that objects and even people can be summoned to a specific spot (Iruka being summoned from the "Heaven" and "Earth" scrolls, for example.)

bah i realized that is too long story to type out(while i am typing!) so i thought i better off writing my own story along with that concept. :p

i kind of like my idea... i gonna try to learn how to do good storytelling though. :(

I've always thought of them as minor gods, or animal gods or what not. Summons/demons(bijuu) are not something I think about much since I sorta grew up with them.
