Am in New Jersey. Yay!

The plan for today is to go shopping with Mom at 1pm, to have dinner with the family at 6 or 6:30pm, and then to see A Prairie Home Companion with Susan at 9pm.

Tomorrow I may go to church, or may sleep in. Then I visit Pat at noon (theoretically staying only until 12:30, but, this being Pat, probably actually staying until 1pm) and hit the road by 3pm, heading back to Ithaca.

Short visit.

--------------------------------------

Yesterday we had a very peculiar pair of customers at the store: a man in his late twenties and a woman in her mid thirties. They wanted to buy coffee beans.

The man claimed he'd cured the woman's diabetes with a weird holistic diet, in which a person eats foods from all areas of the world, so you get a perfect pH balance of sugars. (Leaving aside the fact that his scientific terms were bogus, this is flat-out ridiculous.) He wanted to blend a perfect coffee by taking a little of all our regular, non-flavored bean types, so it would be like "drinking all the continents at once."

I managed to deflect the long version of his special diet explanation, and scooped up the coffee for him; this works because all our coffees are the same price. What I carefully didn't tell him is that they're all from South America, except for the Kenya AA blend and the Hawaiian Kona blend. They may have names like "Italian Espresso," "Vienna Roast," or "Mocha Java," but those do not actually reflect any geographic reality.

...

We get more kooks in Ithaca every year, I swear.
