The trouble with trying to write a love story is that it becomes ten times harder than usual to keep from slipping into cliche and melodrama. I have to keep hauling myself up by the scruff of the neck and smacking my own fingers with a mental ruler, as it were.

*sigh*

Oh, I'm mostly complaining for the sake of complaining. In all honesty, I've spent years trying to write this story (working title "Renunciation"). I just couldn't figure out the right approach until about a month ago, and then I realized it's perfect as a present for you.

It's a meditation on honor and religion and culture clashes and the nature of virtue and stuff like that. And also a love story (one that tiptoes dangerously close to the edge of some cliches I have mocked mercilessly in my time), but neither half works without the other half to hold it up. :-)
