writing progress report

I sent chapter 12 of "Secrets" to beta yesterday. (Well, techically at about 2:30am this morning, but it was before I went to bed, so it was functionally still Wednesday. *grin*) Anyway, I should have it back by next Friday, and hopefully I'll be able to post it that weekend. Victory is (almost) mine!

Now I just have to face chapter 13 again. Submersion in depression and guilt and the weird aftermath of a crisis is draining as anything, but I am determined to do post-traumatic stress, if not dead-on right, then at least more plausibly than Rowling. So back to the salt mines I go.

eh? i lwas yassuemd there was definitly traumatic stress but for some reaso nahrry didn't notice? i couldn't believe it if she literall ycame out of this all chipper and wheee!

Oh, believe it. Mrs. and Mr. Weasley take Ginny off to the hospital wing after Harry and Dumbledore explain the plot. We don't meet her again until this paragraph (p. 340 of the SFBC edition):

The rest of the final term passed in a haze of blazing sunshine. Hogwarts was back to normal with only a few, small differences -- Defense Against the Dark Arts classes were canceled ("but we've had plenty of practice at that anyway," Ron told a disgruntled Hermione) and Lucius Malfoy had been sacked as a school governor. Draco was no longer strutting around the school as though he owned the place. On the contrary, he looked resentful and sulky. On the other hand, Ginny Weasley was perfectly happy again.

See? According to Rowling, Ginny is 'perfectly happy.' No post-traumatic stress. No guilt. No fear. No trouble finding a place among the other Hogwarts students whom she's presumably been ignoring or avoiding to some degree all year.

Ginny's recovery happens completely off-screen, so for all we know she might as well have been chipper and wheee as quickly as the day after the confrontation down in the Chamber. And yes, Harry doesn't notice and doesn't care either.

yeah. i don't knwo how it woudl have helped matters if she'd said ginny seemed perfectly happy again. yo ucould open a floodgate here though. havign her secretly cry over the fact that not even her brothers ask her how she's doing. adn then makign her think it is her own fault for not confidign in anyone. it's jsut i sorto f skimmed over those things because i used to be i nan email group that had sort of bimontly fits of listing al lthe Things That Jkr DId Wrong in thebooks including copleel ymisguessign kids reactiosn to things and lack of research for other stuff and ialmost lost intersti nthe hwoel series. and then i felt guilty for likign them and ignorign al lthe plot holes and stuff. which madem e decide notto betaread anyone's fics or stories because the few tiems i did i yet again got lost i nthe story and forgot to look for this kind of stuff.
