3,600 words, baby! *dances with glee*

I think this NaNo thing might just work out.

Of course, those 3,600 words forced me to quickly sketch out the personality of a couple characters I'd never really thought about, and bash together some sociopolitical structures for the country that I hadn't considered in enough detail... but that's the fun of it, see? I never realize all the pieces I'm missing until I actually start writing. Then I fill in the chinks and use that new information to revise other bits I haven't written yet.

I'm still revising as I go, though. *sigh* I tried not to, but it isn't working very well so far. That is, I'm not junking whole story pieces, and I'm not scrutinizing every last word, but I'm still going back and tweaking the paragraph above the one I'm currently working on, or reshaping lines of dialogue.

Dialogue's always tricky for me. It's hard to make characters sound like themselves instead of just like me, and I'm never sure I'm doing it very well. And there's the added problem, when writing fantasy, that you can't fall back on many of the verbal ticks you hear in everyday speech, because they depend on references that don't exist in your made-up world. You can invent some new ones, but you have to make them either very intuitive or explain the background (which can easily get clunky and just ick).

Still. 3,600 words. Woohoo!

Job interview tomorrow morning. I keep interviewing, but nobody hires me. I'm not that unemployable, am I? No, I KNOW I'm not. It's not my fault all the companies are too stupid to realize what a great person I am, and what a good worker I can be. *sticks out tongue at stupid employers*
