The ice storm that hit New England was mostly snow here in Ithaca... though very damp and sticky snow, which is the worst to shovel since it's very heavy and dense and it gathers readily into semi-frozen clumps.

I forgot to dig out my boots last night, so this morning I lost five minutes searching for them in various closets before I realized that I'd left them wrapped in a plastic bag under my coat rack. *headdesk* Ithaca is also a terrible town to walk through on the morning after a snowstorm, because so many houses are occupied by college students. They never get around to shoveling until early afternoon at best, so I lost more time wading through partially trampled snow. We got 5 or 6 inches down here in the lake valley, and I'm sure it was worse up on the hills and out in the suburbs. Fortunately, there were no power outages that I know of.

When I got home at about 9:50pm (after more floundering through snow), I discovered that the city snowplows had filled in my sidewalk with about six linear feet of snow and ice. Blecch. I spent at least fifteen minutes digging through that mess and widening the clear path on the sidewalks until I hit grass on either side of the concrete. I'm sure my back will hate me in the morning.

Now I am going to work on my speech for church on Sunday. The trick here, I think, will be trimming down my ideas so I'm not rambling on for nearly ten minutes about how I ended up as an RE teacher and why I keep volunteering over and over again.

And then I'm going to bed, because I'm covering BW's shift tomorrow; he had to leave town to attend his brother's funeral. *lights a candle for BW*
