Work was madness today.

First, tomorrow is the Kentucky Derby. My store sells the Daily Racing Form, which is the authoritative source of information about horses, races, and betting. Derby betting is big business.

Second, tonight's MegaMillions jackpot was $225 million. People start getting seriously irrational about lottery ticket purchases once the jackpot hits about $150 million, and they just get crazier with each increase thereafter.

Third, today was Slope Day at Cornell, which means lots of drunken college students.

Fourth, I heard that today was also Fountain Day at Ithaca College, which means even more drunken college students.

Fifth, tonight was Gallery Night, which means lots of people wandering around the Commons and surrounding streets, and dropping in to my store to buy coffee, snacks, cold drinks, or tobacco, or just to kill a few minutes browsing the magazines.

Sixth, we got the usual Friday delivery from Elmira Distributing.

Seventh, we got a shipment from Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company.

Eighth, neither I nor any of my coworkers had gotten enough sleep.

Ninth, every one of us made at least one notable register or cash drawer error today. (JM forgot to ring in a $50 instant ticket pay-out, even though she'd handed out the cash. MS had to void nearly $1000 in accidentally rung up lottery tickets. I dropped a cash drawer in the back room and had to spend nearly ten minutes picking up loose change and verifying that I hadn't lost any. AO temporarily screwed up the change drawer in the safe. BW did not screw anything up while I was still there, but he had two and a half hours to go after I left at 6:30pm, so we shall see how that went.)

...

MS bought herself a margarita after work. I just went home and drank wine.

But! That's not all.

Mrs. B, my landlady, left me a voicemail to say that though she and Mr. B have not 100% decided to renovate the house and thus eliminate my apartment, that looks like the most likely option. Also, she will bring an architect friend of theirs to look through my apartment tomorrow afternoon so he can advise them on how best to go about converting the house back to single-occupancy.

So barring any acts of god, it looks like I'm moving this fall. Damn.

*sulks* *puts off apartment hunting until Monday*
