Yesterday I got another letter from Elan Financial, saying that they're raising their interest rates and so on and so forth. Bah. This is irrelevant since I never carry a balance anyway, which they would know if they were not such idiots.
Anyway, today I responded online to three credit offers I'd received over the past two weeks. I was turned down for two (a Discover card and a Barnes & Noble MasterCard) and accepted for the third (a CapitalOne MasterCard). The Discover card offer shunted me sideways into an HSBC Direct Rewards card offer for which I was approved, but since that card would have charged me $59 a year just for having it, and CapitalOne had already said yes, I turned that down.
So now, even if CapitalOne gives me a dinky credit limit (which is entirely possible, given the economy and my low income), I will have two credit cards and ought to be able to manage accordingly -- i.e., I can use one for groceries and everyday purchases, and save the other for occasionally buying stuff online and big ticket things like car rentals.
And maybe, after another year of proving that I am about the most dependable and least risky customer they will ever see in their lives (as I already have been proving for a year and a half now! *seethes*), I will get better terms again.
But I am not holding my breath.
