So. My trip.
I left Ithaca as scheduled, transferred in Newark, and arrived in Omaha as scheduled. There I rented a car and (after getting slightly lost en route to I-29 north) drove to Denison. I visited Grandma Doris briefly that evening, which included listening to a local male chorus rehearse at her assisted living home. (Random entertainment is random, yes?)
We did a lot of stuff on Tuesday, which mostly boils down to driving around Denison so Grandma Doris could see the town (and her two old houses), going to Wal-Mart a couple times (first just for kicks, second to buy bathroom supplies), going to Cronks for lunch and dinner, and driving out to Yellow Smoke Lake to admire the scenery. Also I took a one-hour break around 2-3pm to go to the public library and sneak online -- ostensibly this was to check in for my Wednesday flights, but I spent most of the time checking email and livejournal.
Tuesday night I drove back to Omaha. This morning I got up at 5am, caught the 6am van to the airport, and caught my flight to Newark with no problems.
And in Newark, my troubles began...
Eh, it's a long and tedious story. Let me sum it up: thunderstorms, delays, and eventual cancellation. So my parents (who live in New Jersey, after all -- about 25 miles due west of Central Park) drove out to the airport, picked me up, and brought me to their house. We had steak for dinner and I am washing my laundry, and tomorrow my dad will drive me up to Ithaca in the morning.
It works out in the end. It's just that I spent seven hours in Newark airport, six of which had no clear purpose, and the seventh of which was basically spent waiting in a customer service line to confirm my flight's cancellation and get the customer service phone number for my parents to call and bitch about a refund. So phooey on them, and double phooey on Continental.

Date: 2009-07-31 05:15 pm (UTC)I found you via chibirisuchan's journal. Your UU icon leapt out at me and smacked me in the eye.
You being a writer is total bonus. I read like 13 year olds thru snack cakes, and am always looking for new authors.
My journal is nothing so exciting, and your bio makes it clear that friending back is not in the cards, but I thought it polite to let you know I added you.
Looking forward to your stories,
Carolyn
