This is an experiment in creating a meme. *grin* (Or just jumping a meme from email to journaling sites, which is an interesting process in its own right. Anyway, moving on!)
I got an email today from my sister the linguist, regarding another linguist's survey project. I am not sure how statistically valid this survey will be (there is no way to tell who is lying about age and gender online, nor to prevent people from answering multiple times), but in the interest of creating a larger and more varied sample, why not go answer a single simple question?
Here is Vicky's message:
Do you have a minute (it really will take no more than 60 seconds) to take a survey and help out a linguist? You will be helping her to get more robust data, and it's a 1 question survey. If you wouldn't mind, please pass this on to other people who might be interested. The more age and gender variety that the researcher gets, the better the research! The survey is at the bottom of the page, using the link below. My apologies if you've already been asked to take this.

Feel free to repost or otherwise pass the link on!

In other news, I spent 45 minutes poking around the good local bookstore on my way home from depositing my paycheck. It used to be called the Bookery II (the Bookery I is for rare used books), but it has undergone a name change and is now Buffalo Street Books. *shrug* I don't care so long as their selections remain interesting and their display tables useful, which they have so far.
After browsing and requesting some recommendations from the clerk, I am now basically finished with my Christmas shopping for the year -- I have purchased books for Ardis, Dad, Mom, Vicky, Cat, and Susan. Now I just need to buy soap and/or coffee for Aunt Cara and Aunt Jan, and I will be all set. (Coffee being perishable, it is best purchased much closer to when it will be given and brewed. *grin*) Hmm. I should maybe buy a chocolate bar for Vicky as well, since her book is cheaper and shorter than the others, but again, that's something to worry about in December. (Holiday cards are for the end of November. *nods firmly*)
I love being on top of things!
