family visits, do-it-yourself framing

My mom arrived in Ithaca around 6:45pm on Friday, bringing Dottie (my parents' dog) with her. We went to Simeon's for dinner, where she had chicken saltimbocca and I had a very spicy (and delicious!) shrimp jambalaya.
Today we had breakfast at Friendly's, after which we ran some errands: getting stakes for my snake plants and a spare key at Agway, buying a new mattress pad at Target, and finding cheap frames at A. C. Moore for a rather fragile abstract painting and an old magazine photograph I have been carting around for years. Then we went to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Sapsucker Woods and looked around. It was damp and chilly, so we decided against walking along any of their trails; instead, we observed the pond from the second floor (their telescopes, made by Swarovski, are brilliant), admired the art collection, and poked around the gift shop.
We got takeout from McDonalds for lunch (mmm, fish sandwich... *bliss*), walked Dottie to Ithaca Falls, and then Mom had to leave around 3pm so as to get as much driving as possible done before nightfall.
I spent the rest of the afternoon goofing around, more or less, but also putting together my artwork and frames, and hanging them on my walls. They look very nice, if I do say so myself. *grin* I think, actually, I may go back to A. C. Moore on Tuesday or Wednesday (or maybe next Saturday, when I am trying to get to a flu shot clinic at Target anyway) to buy another poster frame, because I am tired of banging nails directly through the various posters I've been lugging around for the past six to nine years.
