The real reason I hate Daylight Saving Time has nothing to do with lost sleep or disrupted schedules. It is entirely related to the alarm system at the smoke shop.

You see, the alarm generally tries to reset itself on some date that it thinks is the start or end of DST. These dates have no relation whatsoever to the real start or end of DST (since Congress keeps changing them, the bastards). Therefore, when DST starts and ends, the alarm does not switch over, and will turn itself on automatically at 8:35pm instead of 9:35pm. Or, conversely, it will not turn on automatically at all and I will have to manually set both the basement and main floor alarms. And these annoyances occur four times a year rather than just two -- on the real DST dates and on the alarm's imaginary DST dates.

Sunday night, the alarm switched over and went off at 8:35pm.

On Monday, I called CPE and got instructions on how to make our alarm call their central system and get reset. Apparently this did not work, because at 8:35pm, the alarm went off again. Cue much hair-pulling on my part.

Today I tried again, and this time it seems to have worked. And you would think all's well that ends well, right?

WRONG.

Part of the lock on our main doors promptly broke.

*headdesk*

I got the damn doors shut anyway -- they are just missing one of three deadbolts, so they should hold for the night -- and left a note for PM to deal with the mess on Wednesday.

In other news, I think I am about done with another component fic of "The Transient and the Eternal." I have said everything that needs to be said, so I just need to figure out how to wrap everything up in another paragraph or three. The fic is 3,200 words at the moment -- that means, maybe 3,500 total, once I wind it down? *makes cautiously optimistic face*
