Am finishing up and then heading home from work to finish chapter 9 of 'Apartment Manager.' Scene 3 is a training session with Yukiko, Iruka, Naga, and Naruto. In scene 2 (which ended up longer than I expected), Yukiko and her cousin Yusuke had a conversation about managing the building, what various family members were up to, and Naruto. I now have a good set-up in place for the sad canon-compliant ending in which Yukiko unfortunately dies young, leaves the building to Yusuke, and Naruto ends up with only Iruka and Sarutobi around as positive/friendly adult influences.

Because really, by this point Yukiko just Will Not fit into canon. *sigh* I said before, and I will say again, this story just kind of up and ran away with itself and didn't stop to ask permission from me. Which is annoying, since I'm the one writing it. *deeper sigh*

Wah! I don't *want* Yukiko to die! Couldn't you have her go off on a multi-year mission in some distant country, instead? Because poor little Naruto is already heartbroken enough. I don't think I can take it if he loses the only person who's ever shown a shadow of compassion for him.

Or go ahead & make it AU. Heck, I've never seen any of the canon stuff anyhow. It's all good as far as I'm concerned.

As I said to Asuka, I think I'll be writing two endings. The canon one because I have this weird reflexive need to be canon-compliant in my backstory and behind-the-scenes fics, and the AU one because *looks around furtively* I don't really want to kill Yukiko either.
