greetings from New Jersey!

I slept badly last night -- as per usual the night before a trip -- and decided I'd sleep in and leave at noon rather than try to do something with Susan while falling asleep. I got up, I showered, I finished my last-minute packing, I got everything to the back door and ready to load into the car, I actually got most of it into the trunk...
And then I slipped on the melting ice and mud in the driveway, went down hard on my left thigh and elbow and hand, and lost half an hour changing clothes, washing ice-cold mud off myself, sitting and catching my breath, and mopping my kitchen and bathroom floors. Not fun. Also, I am getting a massive bruise on my thigh, which aches and hurts in a very annoying fashion.
Still, it could have been worse. At least I didn't break my leg or arm!
Anyway, the drive went smoothly and I arrived at my parents' house around 4:30pm, where I got my laundry started, asked my mom's opinion on what to wear to the high school reunion tomorrow (speaking of which, I cannot believe I brought five pairs of shoes with me because I don't yet know what outfit I'm wearing -- women's fashion is such a rigged game), and played with my parents' dog a bit.
Then we went out for my belated birthday dinner, to a place in Chatham called Gregorio's. They do good food. :-) The bread basket comes with a spread made of sundried tomatoes and olive oil, which is surprisingly lovely. (I am not a big fan of tomatoes.) Mom and Dad each had a salad while I had calamari for an appetizer. For the main course, Dad had pork tenderloin in some kind of sweet balsamic sauce, Mom had roasted lamb shank with risotto, and I had fettuccine with mushrooms and white wine sauce. We had no room for dessert, even though I had half my appetizer and perhaps two thirds of my entree boxed up to take home for later.
(Tangent: Why are restaurant meals so huge, anyway? They make financial sense for me, since I always get at least two or three meals out of them, but I do wonder about people who eat everything at one sitting and/or don't take their leftovers home. Then again, I don't stuff myself at Thanksgiving either, so I think I have just gotten out of the habit of really large meals over the years.)
Soon I will call Susan to hash out what we're doing tomorrow -- the general plan seems to be breakfast and/or lunch and a movie, but the details aren't yet pinned down.
And tomorrow night is the reunion. *crosses fingers*
