beta help, please? with a cherry on top?
Apr. 4th, 2011 10:40 pmSeriously, I need a beta for my unexpected remix.
This is what I can tell you upfront: it is mostly gen (of the sort refered to as "bob" in some places -- there are some pairings in the background and some mention of sex, but that stuff is completely not the point of the story), it is between 1,000 and 5,000 words long, and it is in a fandom for which I have previously written. Also, it is based on a drabble, so you only have to read an extra 100 words to tell me if it works as a remix as well as a story in its own right.
This would not be a rush job. The posting due date is April 23rd, so while I would like to have a few days for editing, I don't need to have the story back until, oh, say, April 20th. That is more than a two week window.
The thing is, I am not at all sure the story hangs together thematically. It has three sections, and I don't know if I managed to resolve the tension of the first two sections in the third, or even if the third section really works on its own. I need someone to tell me where I am falling down, because I have rewriten this thing so many times that I can't see the forest for the trees.
Even if you know nothing about the fandom in question (which I will tell you via email or private message, if you give me contact information), a general story flow and grammar check would be of service!
Please help?

Date: 2011-04-05 03:11 am (UTC)I will be happy to help.
Please know this: I am mostly proficient in academic writing.
I have never edited or beta'd for anyone.
I have done a lot of reading, and have an instinctive feel for what is viable,
but may not be able to tell you clearly
1. why it is working
or
2. what is in need of modifying.
If this will help, please contact me here - c k nelson 1 at yahoo dot com (no spaces)
or pm me at LJ.
