I'd really rather be reading, but...

edenfallingWah! UPS delivered my books to the rental company office instead of to my door. And the company closes at 6pm and I didn't get home from work until 7. So no books for me until tomorrow, when I implement my sneaky evil plan to shift my whole work day back by an hour or so. (Well, strictly speaking, I'll go in one bus earlier and leave two earlier. Then on Friday I go in early again but leave at my normal time. And it will even itself out.)
On the other hand, since I had to distract myself from the woe of booklessness, I cooked and put away laundry and wrote a whole scene for 'Apartment Manager' chapter 11. Which, admittedly, isn't all that long, but it's at least 500-100 words and finally gets me to the "oh shit" moment I wanted to have at the end of last chapter.
And Naga's mother appeared out of the blue. In a kimono, and acting relatively formal for this world. And it wasn't until after I'd written her quiet and in a kimono that I remembered that's how Orochimaru was as a kid.
Occasionally I wonder what the heck is going on in my subconscious mind.
Bah. Am heading home soonish to start the actual fight scene. Well, okay, really it's the 'Yukiko has a several minute long blind panic' scene, but after the panic and some taunting, she settles in to plot a strategy. And procedes to kick ass. Well, sort of. Um... kick ass with occasional setbacks of panic when things seem to be going wrong.
Or something like that. I'm sure it will change as I write, since every single scene of this story seems to do that on me. I mean, scene one of this chapter wasn't even intentional, really -- I wanted a one paragraph transition to get Yukiko and Naruto to the arena. Instead I got a brief conversation with an Anbu guard, Yukiko's random musings on shinobi interion decoration (or the lack thereof, and how she could possibly make money fixing said lack), and a short big-sister moment.
