3 things: Narnia Fic Exchange, Femgenficathon, "Guardian" progress report

1. Because I am possibly nuts, I signed up for the Narnia Fic Exchange this year. I mean, it's not like I don't have enough to write already... *headdesk*

But whatever. I like challenges, and exchanges are in some ways easier than writing for myself -- the restrictions are useful in telling me several thousand ways not to go, which saves time and flailing and bouts of "I have six million ideas; which one should I actually pay attention to?" syndrome.

I received my prompt today. While it's a bit vague in some respects, there are some interesting ideas and I think given a week or so I will come up with some characters and a plot. So yay for that. :-)

2. I signed up for Femgenficathon, as always. Hopefully this year I will not have a complete loss of motivation during the summer, which is why I didn't finish a fic last year. In hopes of avoiding that, I have already chosen a fandom and character (which are, respectively, obscure and even more obscure) and am in the process of doing some preliminary research and note-taking, so I have all my canon details in place to start elaborating on.

But these things have a way of falling through for one reason or another, so I think I won't mention any details until I have made a start on an actual rough draft.

3. I'm really sorry I haven't finished ch. 15 of "Guardian" yet. My sleep schedule got thrown all to hell this past week and a half -- partly because I can only use my computer at night during the summer, and partly because the more tired I get, the worse I get at time management and so I forget to make myself go to bed -- and I cannot write when I am sleep-deprived and also overheated.

Anyway, I have started Eiji's POV scene and the chapter is currently at 3,300 words. So, you know, I am working on it. Just very, very slowly. :-(

YEAH for both the challenges. I'm doing two femgens (WHAT WHAT WHAT WERE YOU THINKING) and got my NFE prompt yesterday. I am thrilled that you are participating in NFE. The stories last year were so good and some were absolutely terrific. I figure I'll do my NFE first since it's deadline is first and then move on the fem gen in August.

Re NFE: I am looking forward to reading ALL THE STORIES. :-)

Despite all deadline logic, I am actually trying to get Femgen done first -- or at least started first -- if only because the character and story I have chosen are so complicated and loaded with issues, and so terribly easy to do very, very wrong. So I want a lot of lead time to make sure I can iron out my inevitable missteps.

Narnia, for all that I love it madly, is much less fraught. *wry*

What is your prompt for femgenficathon? I'm struggling with mine because it could apply to about 80 gajillion characters so I haven't even picked a fandom yet. And really, does it have to be an established fandom, or could it just be a character in a book or movie that *I* really like? Which might make it easier. For example, one fandom that easily comes to mind for my prompt is Harry Potter, but I feel like that would be cliched, especially if I chose Hermione.

Which is such an obviously perfect fit for Ariadne from Inception that I am determined not to take it that way. :-) Instead, I am planning to go sideways and write for a very tiny (practically nonexistent, outside of Yuletide) fandom, and within that fandom, a character who never gets written about at all.

I figure that so long as the chosen character is fictional, she qualifies for Femgen... but then, I wrote Enchanted Forest Chronicles fic a few years back, and it's not as if that series has a huge fandom, so there is a certain element of self-justification there. :-D

Ooh Ariadne from Inception. Such a great character and yes, the prompt would fit perfectly. Good on you for resisting the obvious:)

Ariadne is awesome! But I seem to be writing about her already for other reasons, so I figured I'd use Femgen as a venue to write about a person I would otherwise... well, it's not that I wouldn't write about her, but I am quite sure I would have no audience whatsoever for a fic about her if not for Femgen. Actually, even with Femgen, I am pretty sure it will be a miracle if I get more than two comments, because obscure fandom is obscure, and unsympathetic secondary character is secondary and disliked. :-/
