wherein Liz and her sister hang out
Aug. 12th, 2011 02:10 amGreetings from New Jersey!
Vicky picked me up as I walked home from work, we got everything into the car in fairly short order, and we hit the road south by 4:45pm. The trip went safely aside from one minor scary moment when I veered to the side of the highway while attempting to put ketchup on a french fry, and one moment when Vicky got so caught up in our conversation she had to be reminded that the lane we were in was ending and she needed to shift left while there was still a gap to slide into.
...On that note, it is wonderful to realize that Vicky and I can still -- after a slightly awkward initial hour, wherein we sounded each other out and did the requisite "talk about stuff we've been doing recently" thing -- just spin conversation out of thin air for hours on end.
We were terrible that way when we were younger. People talk about siblings having trouble sharing beds on vacation because they kick each other, and yeah, we did that sometimes in elementary school, but by the time we were, oh, thirteen and ten or so, the real problem was that we would get to talking about something (anything!) and wander off on tangents for four or five hours, until we were up FAR too late and had to resort to almost physically painful acts of will to just shut up, go to sleep, and not bring up a new idea to start the conversation train going on yet another track.
I love that we can still snap back into that mode. :-)
And now to bed.
