28 – Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your fic?

My sister and I attempted to co-write some original fiction when we were younger. The projects invariably degenerated into arguments, stalled out, and were abandoned. The three that seemed closest to working out were the one where I had drawn a map and Vicky wanted to base a story in that world, and two separate times when she handed me a vague story idea which I poked holes in so as to improve its coherency, after which I drew her a rough map based on some of her plot requirements.

In other words, I am terrible at co-writing, but if you want a fantasy world map drawn to order or someone to point out gaps and flaws in your world-building and plot logistics, I can at least do that. *wry*

Other things that don't quite qualify: 1) I have participated in Remix Redux several times, but reworking a previously written story is not the same as, say, two people simultaneously writing a pair of interlinked stories. 2) I wrote one short fic -- Rituals -- which is set in a kind of side-annex to [livejournal.com profile] askerian's Saki-chan universe, which Asuka graciously opened for other people to use as a basic concept. 3) A few very kind and wonderful people have drawn art for some of my stories, but that was done after the fact rather than along with the writing.

29 – What is your current project or projects?

My main focus right now is my Femgenficathon story, which is, alas, still untitled. It's a combination of backstory and character study for Avalyn Friesen from Mysterious Skin. I am starting to play around with potential structures and arcs while I finish my background research, and it seems like the story might want to be in first person to stylistically match the book, even though I am using the film as my main canon and only referencing the book for extra details. This is odd to me since I very rarely write in first person.

As for all my other projects, go read my ff.net profile page. I keep it pretty up to date. (I am also always working -- for highly variable values of "work" -- on anywhere from one to twenty original stories, but I don't track them anywhere near as closely.)

30 – Do you have a favorite fic you've written? What makes it your favorite? And don't forget to give us a link!

In no particular order, my favorite three stories I've written are The Way of the Apartment Manager, Knives, and Finding Marea: Truth and Change in the Circle of Kemar. (The last is original fiction, but it plays textual games with the Bible and broadly-sketched European history that are cousin to the way fanfiction plays textual games with canon, so it may be of some interest anyway.)

I keep hoping one of my newer stories will match those three, but so far, everything is either tragically unfinished, is too short to have the same emotional weight of accomplishment, or fails to jump up and down on my buttons to anything like the same degree. *sadface* (You will note, upon reading those stories, that they are not hitting the same set of buttons at all -- the first is about family, renewal, and heartwarming moments, the second is about torture!kink, obsession, and self-constructed traps, and the third is about religion, folklore, and the nature of truth. They are all three about ethics and world-building, though, because those themes seem to carry over into every damn thing I write.)

Things I have done today: defrosted the snus cooler at work. PM decided this needed to be done while we were temporarily out of stock, unplugged the machine, and left it for me and BW to keep an eye on through the evening. BW and I got the ice pried away from the front of the cooling element without much trouble, but the ice behind it was another story. Finally I decided to disregard PM's instruction not to poke at things, got a screwdriver, and just removed the plate and fished the partially rotted ice out in chunks. Then I dried the machine and put it all back together... and it worked just fine, thank you.

The funny part is that PM set up a really elaborate system of drip catchers in front of the cooler's open door. Unfortunately, she completely ignored the cooler's back, which is where most of the meltwater went, puddling all over the counter, trickling onto the carpet, and soaking several pamphlets and displays on its way. Ah well, such is life. *wry*
