[Meme] AU summary results
Sep. 3rd, 2011 01:20 pmHere are the crack AU story sketches I was asked to create. People do seem to like IN SPACE! variations...
Anyway, links:
Naruto and Regency England (two versions, one with bonus Temeraire crossover)
Harry Potter as a Space Opera (...I might actually try writing that, if I were a faster writer)
Chrestomanci in Space (which gives you different results if you start with Christopher or if you start with Cat)
Naruto, space pirates (again, I might actually write that if I had more time)
Naruto, vampire AU (which turns out to be something of a conceptual fusion with BtVS, and also utter crack)
Buffy, in Harry Potter world (done as a fusion rather than a straight-up crossover)
I am willing to keep going, if anyone else wants to play. :-)

Date: 2011-09-04 02:24 am (UTC)Buffy Summers is a Muggle-born witch who has recently transferred to the Sunnydale Institute for Magic after spending junior high and the first year of high school following the magic-and-mundane track that most Muggle-born students take in America (where magical lessons are treated as an intensive after-school enrichment program plus immersion summer camps). Sunnydale, however, is a magic-only school that serves California, southern Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona.
Buffy falls in with Willow Rosenberg, Xander Harris, and Jesse whatever his name was, only to discover that Sunnydale is under a mysterious curse that both decimates its student population each year and prevents anyone from talking about the troubles to anyone in a position to stop the carnage. When Jesse dies, the three of them band together to research the source of the curse and defeat the evil Master Nest (who teaches comparative magical theory, because America's magical system is a complex muddle of European, African, Native American, and Asian magical traditions) before he kills all the faculty and turns the students into his brainwashed army. Rupert Giles and Jenny Calendar (who teach, respectively the Dark Arts and their counters, and the integration of magic and Muggle technology) are their somewhat reluctant helpers. Various vampire and demon characters are students and teachers already under Nest's spell, who may or may not come around to Buffy's side if they can find the appropriate counterspells.
It also turns out that the reason Buffy was forced to transfer -- which was nominally because she lost control of her magic in the middle of her Muggle high school and started a fire -- was not actually her fault and was really caused by Lothos, one of Nest's followers, because there is a prophecy that Buffy is the only person who can stop Nest before his plans come to fruition.
And there you go!

Date: 2011-09-04 02:47 am (UTC)The theory is that kids could easily learn at least some of the iffy spells from their parents, so it's better to make sure they learn them in a controlled fashion along with a voice from the social majority saying that hey, you know, not everybody thinks these spells are okay and please think before you cast them.
But that is getting rather far afield, so I will stop now.
