rthstewart, who asked for 3) As for drabble, oh gosh, do I have to post over in mine? I'm BORING and don't really have anything to say. BUT BUT Shezan and Ilgamuth or Cor and Aravis. Oh please.

Do not stand at my grave and weep: Shezan Tolkheera and Ilgamuth Tarkaan during HHB. 600 words on love, politics, and grief.

I will put little hearts around this. She is reading grief poetry and he is trying to coax her with love poetry. They analyze! They plot! They will save Calormen and help form the new civil service! Even the gods have taken sides and used demons in aid of their cause! He will quote to her of poems of love that outlast death and they will save Calormen!

Poetry! I keep meaning to read Sufi poetry, and Rumi and Hafiz and so on, and maybe Greek and Roman epigrams for good measure, because I hated the way Lewis treated Calormene epigrammatic poetry vs. northern epic poetry. There is nothing wrong with epigrammatic poetry! It does the job of distilling a thought or an emotion or an event into its most meaningful bones, like using the faded scent of dried rose petals to create a whole summer's worth of gardens in the mind. And that is awesome.

Ahem. Sorry, that is kind of a sore point for me.

Anyway, thank you for the prompt; I really liked getting to revisit those two. :-)
