Reload page in style: site light

Here is the text of a support request I just opened:

I am trying to delete a spam comment that contains an embedded video. I cannot do this because the little red-outlined text box that contains the "Delete this comment" and other such options is opening UNDER the video rather than over it, so I cannot mark anything in it with my mouse -- I would be clicking on the video instead.

I have screened the comment and banned the account that posted it, but I would like to actually delete it.

I use IE8 as my browser. Thank you for your consideration.

...It occurs to me that I should have mentioned that I'm using the default site view and comment scheme. (I hate it, but I do not have anything like the technical skills to know how to go about changing it.) But in a way, that just makes the issue worse. This is not a problem arising from somebody's attempt to rearrange the way the site works. This is a problem arising from LJ's basic default code-for-everyone.

Argh!

Yeah, this is not good design. It turns out I was able to delete the spam via the comment notification in my LJ inbox.

rthstewart also suggested that it might be possible to do the same via the email notification of the comment, but I tend to delete those emails as soon as I receive them and anyway, I shouldn't NEED to be using workarounds. *headdesk*

Huh. Weird. I have no problem with just clicking on delete for the comment. Or, when I got the notice on email of the comment submitted to my journal, one of the options in the email is Delete comment, so I just get that option right away, click on delete and it's down without ever even going to the comment page. Does that help? Or maybe try a different browser?

I was able, on second thought, to delete it (and mark it as spam) via the notification message in my LJ inbox. Victory!

But the point remains that I should not have needed to use that workaround. If the delete function on the comment page itself is non-functional when the comment consists of nothing but an embedded video, that is a problem and Livejournal should be notified so they can fix it. :-(

I agree that you should just be able to mouse over and delete, but aside from the workaround you took, you could try seeing if you can tab onto the delete button and hit it by pressing "enter" (next time)....

In opera, I can "tab" (I changed my keyboard shortcuts so I'm not pressing tab, but you know what I mean) onto the delete button even though it's invisible unless I floatover the blue box with my mouse, for what that's worth.

The thing is, the delete button brings up a little popup window with four options, each with a tickybox: 'delete comment,' 'ban [commenter] from commenting,' 'delete thread (all subcomments),' and 'delete all [commenter] comments in this post'. Underneath those tickyboxes is a button marked YES that you need to click to carry out whichever options you mark. I could click on the delete button itself with no problem, since it's in the blue header bar, but I couldn't do anything with the popup window -- I could not get at any of the tickyboxes, let alone the YES button. And tabbing and clicking is dangerous if you can't see what it is you're telling the program to do!

Since I found the workaround, I have also noticed that there is a separate delete-as-spam button in the header bar... but that also works by opening a little popup window, which would have opened under the embedded video and thus been useless to me. :-(

It's just bad design.

I think the only thing I care for in the new design is "expand all comments", which I'm only assuming I couldn't do before. XD Ah well....
