Off to jury duty, which was moved to 1pm rather than 8:45am, thank goodness. We'll see what happens!
-----
ETA, 4pm: Without going into details, this was jury selection for a murder trial. My former coworker AO was called in yesterday for the first round of juror selection, but apparently was let go.
Basically the lawyers for the prosecution and the defense questioned eighteen people in detail while about seventy other people (including me) sat in the audience section of the courtroom and either listened or busied ourselves with distractions such as books or magazines. I got all the way through this week's edition of the Economist while ALSO listening to a fair number of the questions and responses.
At 3pm, two people were sworn in as jurors and the others in that potential panel were let go. This leaves two more jurors and a handful of alternates still to be selected, so the rest of us were called back tomorrow for 9am. *sigh*
Oh well. All in all, I think I got paid $40 for sitting around doing nothing for two hours, which is not a terrible outcome. *wry*
