Homestuck update!!!

Kankri Vantas. Jesus Christ, Kankri Vantas. I about died laughing every time he opened his mouth. Meenah's crazy fun and Aranea is an appealing mix of adorably awkward and overly-wordy Exposition Girl, both of which we already knew -- and Latula Pyrope and Porrim Maryam are awesome in their respective ways -- but oh my holy fuck, Kankri Vantas.
I never thought I'd say this, but man, compared to his pre-Scratch self (or Beforus self, I guess?) Alternia was so good for him. In terms of personality, self-awareness, social sensitivity, and ability to usefully relate to other people, I mean. Obviously there's the whole hunted fugitive and horrible death aspect, but oh wow, his first incarnation is a self-righteous little twit.
I kind of want to pat him on the head and punch him in the face at the same time. Seriously, what the hell.
(Karkat's expressions all through their various conversations are PERFECT. Oh god, poor Karkat, I am so glad I finally figured out how to rescue him and get through that locked door. Nobody deserves that kind of torture.)
Rose was totally flirting with Meenah. I am bad at catching things like that unless they are freaking blatant, and that was pretty blatant. Not as blatant as Kankri's "I notice these things because we're platonic friends and isn't it great that we're platonic friends so romance doesn't stop me from noticing how beautifully your hair flows in the wind, etcetera" speech -- which, that kid has ZERO SELF-AWARENESS and NO SOCIAL SKILLS WHATSOEVER -- but still pretty blatant. Kanaya was adorable and I hope she works up the nerve to speak with Porrim! They're as drastic a contrast as Karkat and Kankri in a lot of ways, but I think they'd get along much better. (Meenah and Feferi have wildly differing approaches to life, but the same level of gleeful enthusiasm and a taste for snarky gossip; Latula and Terezi have similarly divergent priorities but I think not too dissimilar senses of humor.)
The bits with Dave felt a little disconnected from the rest of the walkaround -- I mean, they're obviously connected to the ostensible "Meenah tries to recruit her friends to fight Lord English" thing, but they got deeply meta very fast and didn't have much to do with troll friendship issues. (They did explicate some points of the Tumblr gimmick, though. Which was a brutally hilarious skewer job, funny because it's true.)
Hmm. Also, let's see, we found several Felt-related items in the chests, Calliope's cosplay horns (...unless they're Hussie's cosplay horns? or did he somehow get hold of her horns so they're actually the same pair?), and there is the very important clue of a JUJU BREAKER, which is self-evidently Crowbar's crowbar, given that Eggs's timer is a juju and Spades Slick used the crowbar to destroy it and all its effects. And he also used the crowbar on the God Tier clock, didn't he! Hmmmm.
I like the dropped names and exposition -- oh god, the Peanuts gag and Aranea paying Meenah to let her exposit because nobody wants to listen! Little things like the Disciple's (Meulin), the Psiioniic's (Mituna), and the Handmaid's (Damara, IIRC?) names; the revelation that the Ancestors were stuck in their dead-end session for three sweeps, which is like six and a half years (WOW); some titles for various players (Knight of Mind! Maid of Space! Seer of Blood!) and consequently the implication that the Ancestors shared their Descendents' aspects but not their titles. There was a lot to think about!
(I had to install Chrome to get past the 98% stall-out that I kept running into in Firefox, but oh well, it never hurts to have yet another backup browser even if I'll probably keep on using Internet Explorer out of habit.)

Date: 2012-08-31 05:03 pm (UTC)I think you hit most of the points about the trolls that were making me go OMG, though I found the interaction between Porrim and Kankri to be frankly more than a little punch worthy, and in fact thought it might be worth a punch from Meenah and her hideous seadweller strength+all that bling on her hands. On the other paw, I really liked Dave''s dismissal of Meenah and how meta it got-especially the 'be Dave' command. You can't Be Dave, that would be out of character!
In other news, Crash Course World History updated again and reminded me of how truly singular an event the Industrial Revolution was. (If you are not already watching this series of aproximately 10-15 minute videos on Youtube, go and watch the first couple.) I mean, why did it happen at all, let alone where it did? We still don't have a satisfactory answer for that! It just blows my mind that every time we find a 'root cause' there's a cause of that root cause. Would we be talking on these computers if there was no coffee to fuel the French Salons and the enlightenment? Maybe not! Crazy stuff to think about.

Date: 2012-09-01 07:15 am (UTC)I will look into the videos sometime. Probably. Maybe. Then I will send the links to my dad and attempt to transcribe some of his points of agreement and argument. (Historians always argue. *grin*)

Date: 2012-08-31 05:15 pm (UTC)Oh god I love them all so much. SO MUCH. Kankri being a pompous little SJ warrior in chaste denial of his Pyrope obsession! Latula was crazy fun too, but my favorite was hands down Porrim, holy shit she is awesome. I kinda want her in Sunlightverse now...! :X :X :X
Rose was hitting on Meenah so hardcore, meanwhile Kanaya is being all coy about whether she is or isn't romantically involved with Rose, you'd think if she wasn't interested she'd go uhh no and if she'd been rejected she'd look a bit hurt or something, idk. *glees*
I did not notice the juju breaker thing AT ALL! o_o oooohhhhhhhh.
I was right about Kankri being Seer of Blood! :D :D :D ... not the rest tho. welp. XD

Date: 2012-09-01 07:10 am (UTC)This wasn't explicit confirmation of Rose/Kanaya, but it was pretty close! And definitely confirmation of a crush on Kanaya's part, if nothing else. :-D
I was sitting there going, "Okay, the oven, the egg timer, the cue ball, Calliope's horns, Caliborn's tooth, this is getting really creepy... hey, wait, the crowbar? You mean we need the crowbar to get rid of jujus? Spades Slick had it last, but what happened to it when the blue universe was destroyed?" Also, the bit about voodoo dolls was really interesting when paired with the little Caliborn doll that was hanging from a tree as part of Jake's entry item. I have to play the walkaround again and take notes or something because I have a feeling a LOT of this information is going to come back in important ways.
