Have temporarily set aside the maddening history book and am kind of hopscotching my way through the excellent history book -- normally I am better at maintaining a linear reading pattern, but a combination of being most interested in a single aspect of the book that is not mentioned in every chapter and, you know, being sick, has been doing weird things to my ability to concentrate. I spent this evening at work backtracking to where I went non-linear and trying to read properly from there onward.

Another book has come available via interlibrary loan and I will try to pick it up on Friday. I meant to get up 15 minutes early today and pick it up on my way into work, but that plan fell through on account of, you know, being sick.

In other news, I was AWESOME at customer service today. Some days I am brisk and businesslike, other days I am kind of barely restraining myself from calling all customers goddamn idiots and ordering them to get out and leave me alone, and yet other days I think I am being helpful but apparently I come off as supercilious (and/or customers are just assholes; probably both), but today I was ON FIRE. Which may or may not have had anything to do with the way I was having mild but persistent out-of-body floating feelings all day. You know, the kind where your "sense of self" is anywhere from three inches to a whole foot displaced from the center of your physical body. Which I had on account of, you know, being sick.

And possibly feverish by now, I dunno, I think I should get to bed.

Yes. That is an excellent plan.

While this is very entertaining to read, I must agree that bed seems like the best plan for now.

I slept twelve hours and am feeling much better now! Still vaguely feverish, and oddly leaky around my eyes (WTF, body, seriously?), but my train of thought is now mostly back under my control instead of whatever the hell was going on in that post. *sideeyes past self*

I think the floaty feeling is a combination of balance issues (due to clogged ear-sinus canals), drugs (hello, NyQuil!), and general exhaustion -- it's a fairly common failure of proprioception, at least for me under those circumstances. Generally it's not a safety issue, since my sense of my body is still accurate even if my sense of "self" isn't properly synchronized to it. But occasionally the balance aspect gets strong enough to make me dizzy as well as floaty, and then I sit the hell down until it goes away. :-/

Anyway, I slept and I feel better today. Still not good, but, you know, I will take what I can get. *drinks tea*

Alas, I have to work from Saturday through Thursday, but I have begged off teaching RE on Sunday morning so that will win me an extra two hours of sleep. Small victories?

I am drinking ridiculous amounts of tea with honey. It is very soothing. :-)
