It turns out I do NOT have to work Wednesday; Ms. Conviviality can cover the morning shift. Yay! (I am still not thrilled about getting up at 9am to retrieve my rental car -- I am about as far from a morning person as humanly possible -- but 9am is much less awful than 6am. I'll take it.)
We got our second magazine shipment of the week today instead of Friday -- the weeklies and tabloids, basically, as opposed to the monthlies, bimonthlies, quarterlies, and random annuals and special issues we get on Mondays. We also received the Elmira delivery, which usually comes on Wednesday. I was not expecting either of those! I knew we'd have to fax in our second Elmira order on Wednesday instead of Thursday (for delivery on Friday), but I figured we'd get the first order normally. Apparently not.
Anyway, we got all that stuff dealt with, plus the instant lottery ticket shipment, a tiny J&R delivery (cigars and pipe tobacco), and a bunch of holiday decorating. I didn't have time to do much Sunday or Monday nights, but I cut out some paper snowflakes for Melodrama to put in our display windows, and she finished creating a little paper flurry this afternoon. And this evening I wasn't as swamped by things I would normally have gotten through earlier in the day, so I had time to haul out our rickety old wooden stepladder and tape novelty bows to the walls up near the ceiling. (I would've used the decent metal stepladder, but the side effect of it being taller than the wooden ladder is that it puts me too far from the wall when I am standing at the correct height. Also, it is a bitch and a half to move around, whereas the wooden ladder is very lightweight.)

In other topics, it looks like I will be driving through rain most of the way down to NJ, though there is always a chance of snow and/or sleet in the mountainous parts of the trip. I will also be driving through the traffic glut of hell, but that comes with the territory on the days around Thanksgiving. (I am not especially looking forward to driving home on Black Friday. There are some damn big malls along my route in Pennsylvania. *makes face*)
And now I have eaten dinner and caught up on my internet surfing, so it is time to see if I can wrangle
branchandroot's mini-ficlet into producing a functional conclusion. At 1,500 words, it is already the longest of this set of meme responses, and it feels like it ought to be winding down if I can just figure out how.
