wherein Liz regrets her remix

The trouble with starting to write a porn-centric story at, um, shall we say a certain point in a female hormonal cycle, is that once your body has stopped sending "yes, yes, go sex, much yay, hubba hubba hubba!" signals to your brain, it's kind of hard to work up the necessary motivation to write the second half of the porn in question. Or at least it is if you are my particular brand of asexual.
*sigh*
My life. So hard.
...
I am definitely past the halfway point of the story, though, and probably past the halfway point of the sex too. I have also made some judicious edits and additions to previous scenes to highlight the theme of this piece, insofar as it has one beyond "wow, sex," and will do another pass-through to that effect once I have typed "the end" or words to that general effect. So yeah. Progress!

I've started wondering whether this isn't part of my non-motivation, too; perhaps I need to work out some kind of theme/conflict/arc that is (or should) be going on along with all the "Wow, sex!"?

Date: 2014-05-10 06:27 am (UTC)I dunno about themes, really. I actually think in some ways it's easier to write straight-up porn with no window dressing whatsoever, because then all you need to worry about is anatomy and kinks and pushing readers' buttons. The minute you bring another element in, you have to worry about how it meshes with the sex -- like, would anybody really be thinking about this theme while having or preparing to have sex? Do the characters' actions during sex support the theme? Does the theme render the sex sort of an afterthought? All those questions. It makes for more layered stories, sure, but there's nothing wrong with writing something solely and specifically designed to make people go, "OMG, that was hot!"
If just-the-sex isn't enough to keep you writing, though, then by all means toss in another element and see if that helps. :-)
(I ended up with a theme completely by accident. I decided to give the sex scene in the original story a more concrete time setting, which affected the characters' emotional frames of mind, which suddenly led to all kinds of stuff expanding the story out beyond its original edges. *sigh* I still have not mastered PWP, apparently.)

Date: 2014-05-10 02:55 am (UTC)I think the story will read all right when I'm done! It's just that the writing has slowed to a painful crawl and I need this finished ASAP if I want to get it edited by Sunday.
