It turns out there was a glitch in Time Warner's computer system. Although I received an email confirming my setup appointment on the afternoon of June 30th (aka today), their main computer system put me down for an appointment on July 5th (aka not until Saturday).
I called at 6:30pm to ask what was going on, and the upshot is that I have been added to a sort of escalated ticket system, which means if the installation teams have a spare time slot, they will call me and try to fit me in early... but if not, I do still have my Saturday afternoon official appointment. Also, the phone operator removed an extra installation fee that had been added to my order, which he said is the kind of thing that only applies when they come set up somebody's VCR or something equally not-quite-their-specialty. I'm annoyed that the charge got onto my order in the first place, but at least it isn't there anymore. :-/
I am writing this from the public library, where I have 30 minutes left before the computer kicks me off for the evening.
Tomorrow I will head up to Cornell, I suppose. *sigh* At least I got some cleaning, cooking, and writing done today -- not to mention I made a start at the next piece of artwork for "Trollstuck," so possibly I will get the next section of that story up in July. *crosses fingers*
Oh!
On a good note, I have been provisionally accepted into the unemployment benefits program. I have to go to their website and confirm the whole business (and I forgot to bring the document with the relevant information into town, whoops), but I should start receiving payments in a couple weeks. And I got in touch with STNC, the upshot of which is that nothing can be done about the pension for a couple months, but at some point I will receive a big packet mailing with lots of info and instructions. COBRA health insurance extension, on the other hand, just requires one form -- which is being sent to me this week, and which I will fill out and send back with a check. I need to look into private insurance options, because this is too expensive to continue for very long, but it's nice to know I will still have coverage while I figure out my next steps.
