Snow all day today, heavy and wet. I took this picture of Cascadilla Creek around 1pm -- we've had at least two more inches since then. I've shoveled the sidewalk twice, and I'll probably have to shovel a third time in the morning. (My house is on a corner. We have a lot of sidewalk. *sigh*)

That's winter all right. *shakes head* I'm just thanking the weather-gods that real snow has held off down here long enough to finish the external house-prep for sale.

This is only our second real snow of the season -- the first was a white Thanksgiving -- which I'm sure the construction workers on the Commons have been grateful for. But they may finally have to pack it in until spring.

Gosh! Today we had a few patches of whatever the snow equivalent of drizzle is called. The next couple days should stay below freezing, which is good since it's time for the annual ice sculptures on the Commons. Sunday through Tuesday may bring rain -- probably no lightning, since there isn't much heat worth speaking of to generate thunderheads -- but after that it looks like winter will be settling in for the long haul.

I enjoy disliking each season in its turn, and it's nice to live in a place that doesn't get quite dry enough for winter air to cut the inside of my nose and throat, but the saying in Ithaca goes that you don't see the sun from November to April. Sometimes that's a little too close to true. *sigh*

I'm a native Californian and thus a confirmed weather wimp. I lived in Boston for five years, and except for about six weeks in autumn and two weeks in May, I couldn't handle the climate at all!

I don't tend to think of New Jersey or New York winters as particularly harsh -- this probably comes from visiting relatives in Minnesota for Christmas every year as a kid -- but they are interminably gray. I hear New England is similar that way.

What I'm a wimp about is summer. I have a strict policy never to move anywhere south of Philadelphia unless someone is willing to pay me at least a million dollars a year to do so. I cannot take the heat!
