I'm back in Ithaca, with a proper keyboard to type on. Hurrah! (The trip up from NJ went very smoothly, btw. The trip from DC to NJ yesterday was more complicated -- lane closures forced us to bail off I-95 just south of Baltimore and take the alternate route north through Harrisburg and then east on I-78 instead -- but there were no problems after that.)

I am also typing from my new desk, which my parents bought me for Christmas, and which Dad and I put together this afternoon. It's not completely finished yet -- the kit only included four feet when it should have had six, so Dad is going to call the store and make them ship me some replacements -- but I've stabilized it with cardboard scraps for the moment, and it's working out nicely.

The problem with my old computer desk was that it had no place to put my legs and feet, since the printer shelf was kept directly under the keyboard shelf. This was workable when I had a desktop and kept the screen right up at the front edge, but became awkward with a laptop since the structure of those machines automatically places the screen a foot or so back.

The problem with my new desk is that I need to finagle some kind of footrest... at least until I acquire a new chair with a slightly lower seat. (And on that note, guess what I requested for my birthday? You get three chances. The first two don't count. *grin*)

All that aside, it's good to be home in my own apartment. I've unpacked and put away all my stuff, set up supplies to write thank-you notes tomorrow, and dealt with the majority of my accumulated mail. And now I get to actually read through the Yuletide archives!!!
