Random life stuff:

So a couple years ago, Landlord Dude put a compost bin in the backyard between my house and the house next door (which he and Landlady also own). I believe this was at the behest of Downstairs Neighbor S, but I wouldn't swear to that. Anyway, he bought (or rented?) the bin from a local company that comes once a week to empty it and put in a new bag, if and only if we drag the bin out to the curb so they see it when they drive by.

Our pickup is supposed to be Wednesday mornings.

I forgot to put the bin out by the curb before Christmas, and when I got back from DC, I figured I'd just wait until after New Year's in case the company was taking a holiday break. So the bin was very heavy and full when I hauled it to the street last week.

It didn't get emptied.

There was no way I was going to manhandle that thing back to its normal spot, and it's so cold right now that there's no real danger of nasty smells, so I said to myself, "Fine, it can just sit there until next week."

Except it didn't get picked up this week either. *headdesk*

I tried calling Landlord Dude's home phone, but it seems to have been disconnected? At any rate, that number is no longer in service. But I have Landlady's cell phone number because of Reasons, so I left her a message explaining the problem. She texted me back to say that so far as she knows, the automatic payments are still being taken out of their bank account and therefore pickup should be happening as usual. Hopefully she'll be able to get that straightened out tomorrow.

That's very galling, when you've been community-minded enough to see that it's put out. :( At least if it's heavy, it's probably running no risk of being knocked over by an ebullient dog-about-town.
