Ugh, I scrubbed maybe a quarter of my back porch this afternoon and I just couldn't keep going. I haven't properly cleaned the boards in years, you see -- and neither did my landlord nor any of the previous tenants -- so both the dirt and the moss/lichen/whatever are thoroughly embedded in the wood and need extensive forceful scrubbing to even start coming out. By the time I called it quits, my wrists were killing me.

On the bright side, I added both detergent and bleach into my water bucket, so hopefully I've poisoned whatever I wasn't able to remove via manual labor. :-)

Tomorrow I'll try for another quarter.

Tomorrow I also want to get a haircut and buy some groceries, so yeah. Busy day!

Urgh. Oh man, that sounds like a definite slog. A bleach soak should help, though, especially if the porch gets any sun at all.

It has no roof (which is why sometimes I call it a deck), it's on the west side of the house, and it faces a yard big enough to deserve the name, so yeah, it gets nice afternoon sun. I looked outside today, and now that the boards have dried, the color difference between the clean parts and the yet-to-be-cleaned parts is really dramatic. So I know all that work actually did something. :-)

I'm gonna put off the next quarter until tomorrow, though, because my left wrist is still unhappy with me. Next time, I will wear my wrist brace underneath my rubber glove, and to heck with the inconvenience!
