the grand recycling sale

Today I spent five hours working at my church's annual garage sale. I'd volunteered in a non-specific fashion ages ago, and earlier this week I got an email that was like, "Hey, non-specific volunteers, could you please be specific now? We need people to do [list of things] this coming weekend." And in a fit of temporary insanity, I said I would work 11am-4pm on Saturday and 12-4pm on Sunday despite having several other things I need to do this weekend.

Apparently things got crazy enough that none of the last-minute volunteers actually got penciled in to the schedule, so when I arrived it took five minutes for anyone to figure out where I should go. But I ended up staffing the crafts & decor room (which is mostly fabric, beads, and endless Christmas knick-knacks) for five hours, which was not terribly exciting except when somebody dropped a bead kit and I had to pick up the contents and get them back inside. *sigh* I also spent a fair bit of time re-spooling ribbons.

I have no idea where they'll put me tomorrow. I suppose it will be an adventure.

In other news, as of this evening I have beta'ed two people's NFE fics, and I would like to inform you all that if the rest of the collection lives up to their standards, we are in for a very good year. :D

Cheers for you as noble non-specific volunteer. :) I hope tomorrow you strike it lucky with an exciting but unarduous assignment. (I'm guessing your NFE assignment is done, if you're seeking garage sale assignments?)

Ahaha NOPE, you guess wrong! My NFE is, in fact, one of the aforementioned "several other things I need to do this weekend." I fail at time management forever. *headdesk*

(I am halfway through the minimum wordcount, and maybe a third of the way through my outline. I just need to power through the rest of the story. While also working at the garage sale and doing laundry for the week, because have I mentioned that I fail at time management forever? *headdesks harder*)

You make me feel better about myself; I also fail at time management forever, plus my August involved helping out someone who also fails at time management, so it usually involved helping out long into the evening and returning home late at night and having no creative force left. :P
(If you need last-minute beta-ing, I think I'm available, though not officially signed up - to make up for it?)
