edenfallingIt occurs to me that I should perhaps talk a little about the health garage, since I've been working there for two months.
Basically the health garage is a non-profit agency that provides a very specific health-related service to the community. There are three physical locations, two of which provide actual care and one of which is a business office. I work at one of the care locations. The structure of that location is as follows: our CEO (aka Grandpa Boss), under whom are three people who handle the day-to-day management. The one who runs the front office I shall henceforth call Sugar Boss. (I'll come up with names for the other two some other day.) There are three full-time front office staff, whom I will tentatively call Prickles, Misty, and Underboss.
Yesterday Sugar Boss had her baby and therefore Underboss is now filling in for her in addition to her usual duties. (This is one reason I was hired -- if I'm handling basic front desk work, Prickles and Misty can deal with some of Underboss's workload, which frees her to handle Sugar Boss's work.) I suspect this will also delay implementation of the new computer program/system for a while, since Sugar Boss was one of the people directly responsible for setting that up and communicating with the software people. I suppose we shall see.
There are also a bunch of counselors whom I will also name some other day. (Side note: I knew one of them tangentially from other contexts, since he's one of Melodrama's good friends and would occasionally visit her at the smoke shop.) We have a nurse and a doctor who come in periodically to do specific tasks that the counselors are not qualified nor legally allowed to perform. Again, I will name these people later.
And that is your introduction to the health garage.

In other news, this weekend is Apple Harvest Fest in Ithaca. I went this afternoon despite the miserable weather (low 50s and constant light rain) and had a good time for a couple hours. I listened to some cool music, bought a bottle of hard cider, and bought replacements for the black dangly earrings I lost a couple years ago.
It is really hard to find silver dangly earrings with only one or two black stones and a minimum of additional ornamentation. The ones I bought are not my platonic ideal of such an earring set -- two stones rather than one, and both the same size instead of the lower being larger -- but they're close enough for government work and now I have a second pair of earrings that will go with any outfit so I won't be stuck wearing my little silver turtle dangly earrings nearly every day. I mean, I LIKE my little silver turtle dangly earrings, but they're not the epitome of professionalism and a small amount of variety is nice.
(I don't like to think in the morning, so I don't try to get clever with earrings except on special occasions; for everyday purposes, I reduce two dozen options down to only two or three. I have also used plain silver hoops as one of those go-to pairs in the past, but my actual-silver set broke and the paint on my fake-silver set has gone funny, so they're not currently an option. *sigh*)

Just a lot of stands selling apples and apple-related products (pies, pastries, apple butter, candy apples, cider, hard cider, etc.), and then a general town festival aspect, which includes live music, some carnival games and rides, a LOT of stands selling lunch foods, and a lot of arts & crafts stands.
Ithaca's competitive food-production events are the Chili Fest in February and the more recently established Chowder Fest in, I think, early December. Those are both fun and delicious. :-)
