On Monday I cooked a batch of veggie sidedish. When I took the lid off the crockpot to start ladling the results into a container for storage, I lost my grip on the handle and the lid's metal edge rested its full weight on my left hand for a few seconds, right on the base of my thumb. I sort of fumbled the lid off my skin, then lost my grip again -- my hands were wet and I was also holding a spoon -- and got another few seconds of exposure.

End result: small second-degree burn. It's toward the superficial end of that category, thank goodness, but it hurt like nobody's business for about sixteen hours and I have a nice off-white blister in the middle of the burned oval of skin. The blister leaked off and on through early Tuesday, but seems to have settled down over the course of the day, as has the pain.

I think from now on I will make sure my hands are both dry and empty before I attempt to remove hot lids from anything.

Ack! Ow, ow, ow, that's always an awful place to get a burn-blister, too. *rueful* It was a few of those that convinced me to invest in a pair of Ove-gloves.

Good it wasn't worse, then! And, yeah, I'm very fond of my ove-gloves; I got the ones with little rubber grippies, and they're really pretty dexterous. Much better than the "grill gloves" I tried before.
