Operation Donate Blood was a success!
The past few times I tried to donate, my hematocrit hovered around 11.9-12.1g/dL, which is just slightly under the normal female range and not really a sign of health problems, but well under the Red Cross's cutoff of 12.5g/dL. Today my hematocrit was 13.3g/dL, which is fascinating since I have not noticeably changed my eating patterns over the last six months.
Perhaps it's because warm spring temperatures have finally arrived, thereby increasing circulation in my fingers. (I have terrible circulation in my hands and feet.) Or perhaps my body just takes more than eight weeks to rebuild its iron levels without supplements. *shrug* I suppose my next donation attempt will help settle the question a little, since it will presumably be less than six months away and therefore in high summer weather.
(On a mostly unrelated note, the warm spring temperatures have brought tree pollen along with them, and my eyes are consequently dry and itchy as hell. As allergy symptoms go, I'll take that over constant sneezing, but it's not what I'd call an awful lot of fun. *sigh*)
