As part of my ongoing decluttering project, I have been sorting through the massive file folders of childhood documents Mom dumped on me several years back, and which have been living, untouched, underneath my coffee table ever since.

It turns out that about 85% of the contents are art projects. I am sure you can imagine what kind of art projects a toddler makes.

If you can't imagine, please refer to the above example, made when I was two and a half years old, back in July of 1984. :)

Are you having any success with sorting through that stuff? Semi-unfortunately, I was a journaler as a child and I have SO MUCH OF IT now that my parents have relinquished their duties as stuff-storers.

At the moment I'm only categorizing: interminable stacks of art projects, things that are only of interest to Mom (and which I am giving back to her), interminable stacks of birthday cards, and some assorted weird junk (like baby hair clippings, wtf). All the art is now sitting in tidy piles waiting for me to take further action. I suspect I'll end up photographing or scanning a few items, maybe physically saving a fraction of those, and tossing the vast majority because they are just indecipherable crayons scribbles and who needs a thousand of those?

My suggestion with childhood journals would be to scan and/or transcribe what you can and then toss the physical copies unless they have strong sentimental value, because digital records are so much less trouble to store.
