Apparently the computer problem WAS my hard drive -- I got a phone call at 9am today telling me so. However, Best Buy seems to have replaced it already (??? wow, that was fast) and downloaded a functional version of Windows plus a program that will let my computer talk to my external CD/DVD drive. (Next time I buy a laptop, I am buying one with an internal CD drive, because external ones are stupid annoying.)

Anyway, I have scheduled an appointment to pick up my hopefully functional laptop this afternoon, which is good because holy shit this notebook is SLOOOOOOOOW. I mean, it is a hundred times better than nothing! And it can talk to my external hard drive (where I have all my files backed up, because I have been doing that every couple days since my laptop went funny and started telling me it had a drive error it couldn't fix), so I've been able to write a little and download a couple pictures, which is nice.

But I want my laptop back. (Dear Shadowfall, please come home; I miss you. <3)

Good luck in finding a new laptop with an internal CD drive. Unless you get a bigger laptop, the newer models are being made without them to save space. I had to get an external CD drive for my new laptop so I can use it in class to show specific videos.

Yeah, that's why my current laptop doesn't have an internal drive; I got it in 2014 and already internal disk drives were getting rare. But it was such a pain to realize I then had to go find, download, and install software that would allow my computer to recognize the external disk drive and read any CDs or DVDs I wanted to play. *headdesk*
