This afternoon's adventure: run a moderately complicated sentence through as many online automated translators as I can find, stare at the results with my rusty knowledge of the target language and wonder how the fuck [thing] came out as [complete gibberish], pick the best phrasing for each clause from my handful of translations (because if you get enough, their errors are in different places), tweak the results a little for (hopefully) colloquial flavor. Lather, rinse, repeat.

If I'd been thinking ahead, I would have found and asked a native speaker for translation aid a week ago. Alas, I am not that organized. :/
