griping, of various types
Nov. 29th, 2005 01:50 pmAm working on a translation. It is a bitch. I'm sure the man could be more convoluted if he tried (this is German, you can always be more convoluted), but he would have to go a long way to be more obscure. And he uses a lot of technical jargon, which, this being Greek archeology in Ionia (west coast of modern Turkey, more or less), is a pain. And it can be damned hard to tell place-names from jargon words -- this is one thing I like about the English division of nouns in proper ones (capitalized) and all others (lowercase).
*bangs head against computer*
I thought I'd be done with this Monday afternoon. I underestimated the time. Damnit, the first pages weren't this difficult! *wails*
-----------------------------------
I used to take birth control pills to regulate my menstrual cycle -- I have massively irregular periods, because I apparently have a slight hormonal imbalance. I went off them a year ago because they're freaking expensive and I figured I could deal with irregularity.
I kind of miss them. It was nice to know when my periods would start, and how heavy or light they'd be. These days, I can get extremely light, sluggish flow for 8 days, or gushing floods for about 4 days (complete with cramps -- I don't get pain, really, just massive discomfort, unpleasant heat, and queasiness). This completely throws off my attempts to buy the right type of pads and tampons, because I don't know what the hell I'm buying for. Grrr.
(I don't get pissy before my periods. I get pissy during my periods. Before, I get increased post-nasal drip, which is just stupid.)

Date: 2005-11-29 07:34 pm (UTC)I wasn't any more emotional, but then, I was also taking anti-depressants for most of the same time period, so I don't think I'm a good test case. :-)

Date: 2005-11-29 09:13 pm (UTC)If it makes you feel any better, I'm in the midst of trying to decode some questions another one of our German translators sent to us. I think when the German language discovered archaeology, the daughter of Chaos was born...
