1. Finished reading Darśan: Seeing the Divine Image in India by Diana L. Eck (third edition). This is a short book, only about 90 pages and heavy on photographs (for obvious reasons), but very informative! It's the kind of basic 'here is a concept, here are some things it means to the people who hold it/do it, here are some ways it plays out in practice' introduction to a foundational cultural practice/assumption that is really helpful in understanding anything higher level, but which very often seems to get overlooked and thus leaves people from other cultures floundering without a framework and misinterpreting that higher level stuff because they're using a mismatched set of cultural assumptions.
I am definitely keeping this one.
2. Shoveled the sidewalk when I got home from Not the IRS, because apparently NOBODY ELSE bothered to do that during the FOURTEEN HOURS I was commuting or working. *side-eyes neighbors, hard*
3. Changed the wax in my wax melter, because the old batch had lost its scent. The new on is Glade brand apple-cinnamon scent; I would not recommend it particularly. I think Glade wax melts are calibrated for use in their own house-brand melters, which obviously I do not have, and the scent is a little... let's go with 'indefinably off' compared to other brands I have used.
4. Slept in, because Friday was both my birthday and my day off, and I could, and it was awesome. :)
5. Cut my fingernails and toenails.
6. Listened to a podcast. Colored a picture of flowers while I did so, and thereby managed to actually pay attention to the whole thing, all 68 minutes of it. \o/
7. Walked into town to do two things: buy vodka and scan some documents at the library. I succeeded in the first errand, but failed in the second because the library is closed through the 19th for renovations. :( I mean, good on them for replacing their carpet and fixing up their restrooms (which, to be honest, have been having maintenance issues for the past couple years), but I am sad at temporarily losing access to the building and its physical collection.
8. Paid my monthly internet bill.
9. Took compost to the backyard bin.
10. Got my period, because of course I did. *wry* Happy Birthday to me, I guess?
11. In better birthday present news, I received a tiny desk humidifier from Susan. It is the CUTEST THING EVER, I swear to god: a little plastic sphere that runs off USB power and plugs into your computer or phone charger. All it really does is make sure the air you're breathing at your desk isn't bone-dry -- it doesn't have the capacity to do more -- but that is a heck of a lot more than nothing. I have been using it beside my laptop this afternoon, and plan to take it in to the rental office on Saturday and see how it functions there. :D
12. Took a nap, because Friday was my birthday and my day off, and I could, and it was awesome. :)
13. Cleaned my bathroom, in preparation for my parents' visit on Sunday.
14. Continued making slow progress on my Cotton Candy Bingo fill.
15. Started getting set up for laundry, which I will be doing after work tomorrow (since I will obviously be busy doing other things on Sunday). I have almost all my clothes in the bag, which is in the cart; I will add my pajamas and scarves tomorrow, along with all the linens. The detergent, dryer sheets, and cash are sitting on the table ready to pick up and go.
...
And now I should be heading to bed, because I have work on Saturday and I would like to finally shake my not-quite-cold rather than let it develop into a full illness. *wry*
