You know how I know that I am crazy? In my free moments at work this evening, and during the last couple hours at home, I plotted almost 90% of an epic Avatar: the Last Airbender/Enchanted Forest Chronicles fusion-style crossover. (The idea being that all the Avatar characters are part of the Enchanted Forest world, and always have been.) It's notably fluffier than Avatar canon -- it kind of has to be; the Enchanted Forest world isn't built for angst -- but it keeps a surprising amount of the general story the same, and I think the changes are organic.

About the only thing I have not figured out is exactly how, when, and why Zuko got his scar. He has to have the scar -- I am not sure why, but he doesn't seem properly Zuko without it -- but the way the backstory is arranged, I am not sure what he would have done to provoke his father, or what exactly he got punished with instead of being sent on a wild goose chase to 'find the Avatar.' Because in this world, he's still in contact with his family at the start of the story, and is, in fact, actively working for them... albeit in a very non-central role.

Here is another Avatar/Enchanted Forest crossover snippet. This is set two years before the story proper (which starts with Aang meeting Katara and Sokka, as per canon), but is useful in establishing some of the changes this world has made to the Avatar characters and situations.

Toph and Mai (and background Zuko), completely gen. 650 words.

This is like crack, I swear. And really not what I need to be writing. First I need to write my Yuletide fic. (For which I now, at least, have a firm idea. Yay progress?) Then I need to finish the untitled Star Trek thing. Then I need to get back to "Secrets" and make the damn story end sometime before I turn twenty-eight. *headdesk*

Today was very frustrating. It snowed last night (four or five inches in the hills, about two inches down in the lake valley), but by the time I was heading in to work at quarter to eleven, the snow on the sidewalks had half-melted into horrendously slippery mush, and what wasn't mush was enormous freezing puddles waiting to swallow unwary feet. Ick.

lengthy grumbling, of no particular relevance to anyone but me )

Tomorrow I have to get up early and open the store with AO. I am not looking forward to that. I am a night owl by inclination and my normal schedule reflects that (I close the store more than any other employee and have for the past two years), so when I try to abruptly readjust and go to bed at, say, 11pm and get up at 6am, it does not work very well. I am usually functional despite lack of sleep -- I learned long ago how to fake being a morning person when necessary -- but I am rarely in a good mood. (Sometimes I am scarily perky from mild sleep deprivation, but that's more of a 'go-go-go-get-through-this' rush than actual good cheer.)

I am collecting the previous two snippets of the Avatar/Enchanted Forest fusion of DOOM that I am not really writing (seriously, I'm not! *crickets chirp*) for the sake of convenient reference. So. 650 words featuring Zuko, Morwen, Sokka, and Toph, with incidental appearances of Katara, Aang, and various cats, plus mentions of other characters.

These snippets are actually separated by, oh, at least a couple weeks and a lot of potential story -- though I grant you, a fair amount of that time is taken up by people traveling and, in Zuko's case, figuring out where to travel, because he is heading off to find the wizards' new secret headquarters and blow it up (Jet helps) -- but they bookend each other neatly, so I am sticking them together.

...It is very bad of me to have, like, a novel's worth of outline at this point, right? *headdesk*

Anyway, bed now. I have to get up early in the morning.
