Today was very frustrating. It snowed last night (four or five inches in the hills, about two inches down in the lake valley), but by the time I was heading in to work at quarter to eleven, the snow on the sidewalks had half-melted into horrendously slippery mush, and what wasn't mush was enormous freezing puddles waiting to swallow unwary feet. Ick.

Then today was the day of transfers and deliveries. Deliveries: Haddon House (foreign candy), Elmira Distributing (cigarettes, tobacco products, candy, and snacks), and Coca-Cola (soda and other drinks). Transfers: four cases of soda to the Elmira store, pipe tobacco to the mall, and an absurd amount of coffee, cappuccino powder, cigars, and assorted paraphernalia also to the Elmira store. I did not end up writing up the invoices for the transfers, but I put the latter two together, which involved hauling a lot of boxes up from the basement. I also put away some of the drink order, and all the cigarettes. (Fortunately, Haddon House arrived early so AO and BW had already dealt with it by the time I clocked in. But I took the reserves down to the basement and put them away tidily.)

Usually the person who is leaving at 6pm counts into register 2 immediately upon arrival, but I got sucked straight into hashing out adjustments to the gigantic transfer on the phone with SS at the Elmira store, and then was down in the basement for something like 45 minutes, so I never did get around to counting in; I just borrowed AO's drawer while she was on break, and then BW's drawer when he clocked out for lunch.

I also did not get around to counting inventory for the monthly supply order. There just was not time. I did, however, call in the map order, and strip and write up the employee free magazines for the week. (We can get up to six free magazines per week, but only old ones that are being called in; new ones must remain on the shelves until called in or replaced by the next month's issue.) I also tried to call in the Santa Fe Natural tobacco order, but nobody was answering their phones (possibly they were having trouble because of the giant snowstorm that walloped the west and the midwest), so I have put that off for Thursday.

Tomorrow I have to get up early and open the store with AO. I am not looking forward to that. I am a night owl by inclination and my normal schedule reflects that (I close the store more than any other employee and have for the past two years), so when I try to abruptly readjust and go to bed at, say, 11pm and get up at 6am, it does not work very well. I am usually functional despite lack of sleep -- I learned long ago how to fake being a morning person when necessary -- but I am rarely in a good mood. (Sometimes I am scarily perky from mild sleep deprivation, but that's more of a 'go-go-go-get-through-this' rush than actual good cheer.)
