I've only written one sentence so far, but in the process of checking a couple of things against my master timeline, I realized I was planning to drag the caravan journey out too long. I have now tightened the trip up by two days. This is useful both because it gets me to more interesting stuff faster, and because it saves me from having to invent two days worth of filler. There is only so much "Let's watch Sasuke angst; angst, Sasuke, angst!" I can stand to write, and I'm sure you don't want to read pages and pages of that either. *grin*

Now back to actual writing

Having just had to stop to make that wretched timeline of Naruto-world (and wasn't that just a trip) I wholly sympathize.

I have never dared to try making a comprehensive timeline of the manga (and everything implied by the manga). I don't envy you that job. I would love to see the results, though!

Actually, I actively disregard a couple things Kishimoto has apparently put into official (or semi-official?) timelines, mostly because my sketchy knowledge of child development psychology means that I flat out refuse to believe Kakashi passed the chuunin exam at six years old. I can maybe buy that he graduated the academy at six. It's a world full of "magic," after all. But made chuunin? Hell no.

It's a very sketchy outline, actually, and doesn't touch on most of the main action, but I had to figure out when the three great wars might have taken place, and who was how old when. Since we're not /actually/ told. And when the villages might have been founded, too. And because Kishimoto Can't Do The Math himself, there's a whole lot of fudging and stretching involved. My best guess is that the villages were founded 50 years pre-canon-start, with the first war ten years after that, the second twenty later, and the third only a year before Kyuubi's attack. So the Fourth? Was only Hokage for a year. That one there's actually no wiggle room on. Did not do the math before writing Kakashi Gaiden.

And yeah. I'm sorry, but there's no /way/ Kakashi passed that exam at 6. None. Not even Kakashi, who is clearly supposed to be the most uber genius child ever. My annotation on that line is "really, Kishimoto? really?"

I don't usually bother with timelines this detailed, but I am trying to keep four POVs and something like... *counts* at least six distinct plot threads from tangling up, and there is no way on earth I could keep all that lined up in my head. Seeing it on the page lets me catch a lot of idiocy that would otherwise trip me up. :-)
