Thoughts as of page 4447 (somewhere in Act 5): OMG, Karkat's transtimeline memos! *dies laughing*

It's a little hard to keep all twelve trolls straight, what with their names, their screen names, and their little astrological signs. Plus their game titles -- those I have just given up on. Presumably there will be a recap at some point; failing that, there must be a series wiki somewhere on the internet.

There hasn't been a sound page for a while. I guess we're moving through so much story so fast there hasn't really been time to slow down any pieces to that degree. Even the occasional animations have been pretty minimal.

I like Kanaya finding Rose's walkthrough records and thinking they're from the past while they must actually be from the future. Inasmuch as anything in this series can be said to make any linear temporal sense at all. And the Spades Slick intermission is getting tied in more tightly, with the Lord English business and now the regisurp plot and the exile from the destroyed future Alternia trying to get Terezi to exile Jack Noir instead of going along with his plot and...

Oh, my head.

It makes sense as you go, but when you step back and try to look at the plot and figure out how it fits together, you start realizing precisely how tangled and twisted back on itself everything is. I cannot figure out what kind of person comes up with this stuff in the first place. It's like Hussie thinks in seventeen different directions all at the same time, and some of them may even be mutually contradictory except for the existence of some others that somehow make them all come down from the air as a neatly shuffled deck of cards instead of a haphazard scatter all over the floor. Or something like that, I dunno, you see what reading this is doing to my figures of speech?

I am just glad to know that it's there for when I catch up to 'now' in the story. I am quite sure I will be even less able to keep everything straight by then. :-)

And yet he has the time to do random self inserts like the bit with the troll costume and the wolf and spiders in the attic... Oh well, his story! And it's definitely a bit much to sum up even just at page 4467. *continues reading*

There are a couple of recaps at some point but man they're long and complicated... but they DO make a lot of things easier to parse. Sometimes you blink and miss something that makes everything else make sense, so it's nice to have it spelled out. I think total he only did two recap pages though so if you've gone through them already then um, no, that's it.

Karkat is hilarious isn't he. XD And don't worry about the trolls, you'll learn 'em as you go.

I just read the memo (p. 4529) where Karkat and Terezi are arguing over Karkat's plan to troll the humans and keep smashing each other's hands into the keyboard and logging each other in and out of the session and then end up with each other's text colors by accident. I about died laughing. :-D

Oh, Karkat. *pets him* The bit where he talks to John the first time and ends up confessing HIS romantic confusions (after he has spent most of the previous memos being the recipient of everyone else's romantic woes) is also a thing of beauty. :-D

I've been RPing, and a couple of my casts have Homestuck people, with a lot of the trolls, so I actually find it pretty easy to differentiate between the trolls, or at least the ones I know already, going solely by typing styles.

I just started reading again, got to the first time we see Kanaya talking to Rose, and flat-out SQUEALED IN JOY as soon as I saw the typing style because I play with a Kanaya who has made me ENTIRELY IN LOVE with the character. KANAYAAAAAA

It's easy to know who is who when they're actually in front of me interacting, but I tend to lose track of the less memorable ones when they're offscreen. And I deliberately know as little about astrology as is humanly possible when living in modern America (because it is not science, and the idea that randomly arranged spheres of superheated plasma control my personality and fate is not one of my superstitions), so the astrological signs are kind of a nagging won't-quite-resolve-into-meaning itch at the edge of my brain. Which is not helpful, especially when they're used to identify who's trying to initiate a chat with the current viewpoint character. *sigh*

Probably I should just go research astrological signs and chuck all the surrounding personality and fortune-telling stuff into the 'forget this yesterday' file. *deeper sigh*

Kanaya is indeed awesome! I confess I like Terezi better so far, but that may just be because I've seen more of her, and I really like how she interacts with Dave (and with everyone else, really, but especially with Dave *grin*). I like the hints of how Kanaya interacts with Rose, but they haven't been on-screen nearly as much. (Yet. That may change!)
