I can generally predict the onset of my period, give or take a day or two, purely by physical changes in my body when I am ovulating. I have known how to do that since I was still in high school.

It has taken me a hell of a lot longer to realize that I can also track my menstrual cycle -- less accurately, but even so -- by my interest in reading and writing PWP porn fic, which is perhaps unsurprisingly at its peak two weeks before the inevitable blood and cramps. *headdesk* (Although curiously enough, that interest has a secondary peak during my period itself. Hormones. How do they even work?)

This observation brought to you by the untitled Homestuck Jane/Dave breast-worship time-travel-abuse porn I just wrote ~1,000 words of tonight. What the fuck is even my life.

ETA: The fic is now at 1,650 words, elements of light bondage have entered the picture, and I am going to bed.

Hahaha, yes, it would be possible to guess my cycle from my AO3 reading history. Bleeding copiously from the crotch? Porn intake increased 300% and includes fandoms I'm not even part of.

As for predicting it, I mostly rely on the absurd desire to eat ALL THE FAT AND STARCH, RITE NAO!! that kicks in 1-3 days beforehand; that and the 'warning cramps' are probably my best indicators, though the former is kind of easy to dismiss or attribute to other reasons (or, conversely, to be an imposter caused by something else).

If you ever get biology at knifepoint, let me know? I've got my own set of ~~retribution~~ pointed questions to ask! :D

Porn intake increased 300% and includes fandoms I'm not even part of.

Funny thing: the fandoms I write in and the fandoms I read in do not always overlap very well. Actually, more often than not they hardly overlap at all -- that is, when I first fall into a fandom, I read everything I can get my hands on. Occasionally it also turns out to be a writing fandom, so for a time all is synchronized... but my reading muse flits away to greener pastures a hell of a lot faster than my writing muse, so within six months to a year I fall out of sync again. Which is not to say that I ever really stop reading in any particular fandom, but I get a lot pickier and quit trolling archives every day.

Like, at the moment I am mostly reading Merlin fic -- this is the third time in the last five years that I've had a fic binge in that fandom -- but I've only ever written two tiny drabbly things for that series. And a couple months ago I was binge-reading Teen Wolf fic when I haven't even ever watched that show, so obviously I'm not ever going to write for it. But my writing interest right now is firmly fixed on Homestuck and Chronicles of Narnia, so yeah. Total disconnect.

But anyway, yay porn! :-)

The warning signs of my actual period are subtle and easily overlooked -- sometimes I get warning cramps, but not always, and sometimes I get a little sniffly the day or two before, as if I'm starting to come down with a cold, but I often get a little sniffly so that's not reliable either. Ovulation, on the other hand, is kind of hard for me to miss, so I just mark my calendar to make sure I'm carrying pads and tampons two weeks later. *wry*

Well, I read in a lot more fandoms than I write in, but not vice-versa. When I start reading porn for fandoms I've hardly even heard of, it's generally because I'm craving MOAR PORN and have started tag-hopping because there's not enough porn with [X] in the fandoms I normally read. This is how I end up leaving kudos on a bunch of things whose characters I couldn't even describe to you, much less tell you whether they're acting in-character. :D

Haha, that's pretty much what I'm talking about! I have read probably 100K (or way more) of White Collar fic, and I've never seen a single episode. (I'm way behind on Homestuck, too; early Act 6, I think. Doesn't keep me out of the fic featuring characters I haven't met yet! Though that's a little different, given my habit of 'keeping up' vicariously through other people's update reactions and meta.)

My life needs way more Karkat/Dave/Terezi than currently exists, alas.

It's actually more weird to me that I have periods of really strongly wanting to read porn at all than that they're hormonally linked. Generally my attitude is more like, "Oh look, another sex scene. I guess that's cute, but can we get back to the plot and character stuff now?" and I rarely even open fics that only have sex and no other elements, but then suddenly it's all, "Oh look, sex! And also sex! And nothing but sex! Yes, good, tell me more..." which is, you know, kind of a dramatic switch. *wry* I think it might be restful not to ride such swings.
