Dear Internet,

I downloaded Office 2013, which makes a big fucking deal of how it's always available on all devices and yay OneDrive and what the fuck, I don't care, just give me MS Word ON MY OWN COMPUTER, YOU ASSHOLE PROGRAMMERS!

By which I mean, I have downloaded this thing TWICE and I cannot find hide nor hair of MS Word on my computer, no matter what search terms I use.

Which would seem to defeat the purpose of purchasing and downloading a program suite that explicitly claims to contain MS Word.

So. Anybody out there have any tips for FINDING Word and then for CREATING A GODDAMN DESKTOP ICON SO I DON'T LOSE IT AGAIN?!?!?!

Fucking Microsoft.

And their chat client is continually busy. I have refreshed it three times now and it keeps timing out and telling me to try again later.

Assholes.

I loathe the recent versions of Word and run with a crusty old version on my Windows desktop. Even though I can get a stupidly cheap version on Office via work, I couldn't bear to upgrade the Windows version or install it on the Macbook and run LibreOffice instead.

I Googled the problem and it looks like it's not uncommon.

Microsoft Office 2013 (plus other programs) disappeared from START>ALL PROGRAMS

Windows 7: My Microsoft Office 2013 Has Disappeared From My Desktop

Without poking about in your PC I can't tell if your icons are vanishing or you have a missing install, which is obviously more serious.

The useful info in the troubleshooting notes is the location of where Office should live, which should be something like: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE15. I'm pretty sure the file you want will be called either word.exe or winword.exe.

I trust the search tool as far as I can kick it, so use Windows Explorer to manually see if the files are still there. If it's there, you can create a new shortcut. If it's not, I'd have to dig further.

So it's created the program folder and promptly deleted itself? Actually, that does sound like a Microsoft "feature".

HUP Office 2013 keeps disappearing!

You have a new PC with no previous versions, but it could be a mangled download or possible mangled registry settings. Probably not a bad idea to try running the Fixit mentioned to remove leftover Office install cruft prior to trying to reinstall again.

From this point, you've done everything reasonably practical to solve it yourself, so Best Buy would be your next step.

Oh god, what a mess. I mean, on top of the apparent fact that 2013 is just 2010 with a facelift and a bigger pricetag. Microsuck all over.

...is it a bad enough mess that you might be wanting to look into OpenOfice/LibreOffice? I have it, and use it sometimes myself. On a Mac, at least, the interface and capabilities are fairly similar.

Good call. Let the techies do what they're presumably paid for.

That stinks!

and they do it again and again, treating customers like garbage. I hope it sorts out.

Suckage.
My guess is there is something wrong with the download on the website and the reason you can't get onto the chat client is that it is swamped with people trying to complain.
This is not encouraging me to go and get a copy of Office 2013, which I desperately need to do now that I have started my study for this semester.
Stupid new computers not having word-processing programs installed at purchase :(

I got Office 2013... For a month.
Because you have to pay for every month you use it
??????????
But yeah, on mine it's listed as Word 2013, and I get it by hitting my windows button. But I mean, I've got Windows 8 (another bad decision) so idk if it's the same for you.
