Reload page in style: site light

It turns out I got the 'your repairs are done!' message in error -- a Geek Squad person moved my case from one list to another once they realized the old hard drive was busted, and the notification system read this as my case being closed and a new case being opened rather than one case continuing under a different categorization -- but by the time I arrived at the store, my laptop had just finished downloading a new copy of Windows (10 this time, in place of my old Windows 8) so it worked out all right.

I reinstalled Chrome (which remembered all my bookmarks and extensions/apps, bless), reinstalled Office (free, thank you Microsoft for not losing my purchase records), restored all my files from my backup external hard drive, and got my wallpaper and stuff set the way I like them. Now I just need a functioning internet connection and life will be good. But that, I am afraid, will have to wait for the TWC technician tomorrow morning.

*attempts to cultivate patience*

I've only just hit this - what a turmoil - I haven't read back, but it sounds like you've been going through much hassle sorting it out. Good luck for speedy restoration of excellent access to everything!

The everything-goes-wrong-simultaneously aspect is mostly down to me being avoidant and the human tendency to acclimate to the most amazingly bizarre and/or inconvenient things. My internet's been intermittently glitchy for ages -- you may recall I spent a fair amount of time in the public library last December because my it kept conking out -- and yet I kept not getting around to calling TWC until the situation got so ridiculous I couldn't figure out why I was paying to not get internet service instead of just not having an internet plan so I could have no service for free. *sigh*

But hopefully it will finally get fixed on Friday!

(My connection is, of course, working tonight and will probably be working tomorrow when the technician comes, because that is how the universe goes, but even so, perhaps there will be SOME sign of what's causing the failures.)

amongst the emails I received yesterday were two from the same person, sent one minute apart, the first asking me to re-forward some information I'd already sent some days back, and the second saying never mind, I've found it.

There have been times when I have deliberately asked someone, "Hey, do you know where [thing x] is?" not because I seriously expect them to know, but because I know the moment the words leave my mouth I will either see [thing x] or remember where I left it. And then I will look and feel like a dumbass, but at least I'll have found the missing item. *wry*
