Jury duty again. OMG, so boring!

ETA: I was not, in the end, selected. I was not even called up to the jury box for voir dire questioning. The jury was filled, four alternates were selected, and the rest of us poor human cattle were released around 4pm. Thus ends my adventure in civic duty, and I am FREE!

...Until the next time I get called to serve. Now the government knows who I am and where I live. Oh the horror! :-p

Were you put on a jury? or are you just waiting to see if you are? there are ways to discourage lawyers and the judge from seating you... just saying....
not that I would discourage anyone from doing her civic duty

Murder! Oh my goodness. Stating that you have very strong views on death and the death penalty and that you were a victim of a crime can often result in you being excused. Also family members or friends who are lawyers. But goodness, this would be huge. What an awful thing.

It's not so bad as long as you're just sitting in the general pool. Going through the voir dire is much more painful and as [livejournal.com profile] rthstewart said, you can in theory persuade them not to pick you. This is probably your last day of it anyway; usually, after two days, they send you home with a piece of paper and then they don't bother you again for the next eight (I think it's 8 for NY now... it's been a while since I was summoned, *touch wood*) years.

(And at least they have wi-fi now! I remember the days when you sit there all day for about 6-7 hours with nothing but a book or a newspaper.)

I'm probably weird this way but I am jealous that you were even called for possibly being on a jury. I've been voting for longer than most of my LJ friends have been alive (srsly) and I have never even been called for jury duty. Though TBH I would probably be stricken from any criminal jury pool because I read a lot of "true crime" books and watch forensics shows, like not just CSI but Forensic Files etc.
