Okay, yes, I'll still write the damn H/Hr fic sometime tonight. But that's all! (And it will be damn hard, let me tell you. My brain is currently swamped, and it's going to take a serious wrench to readjust to JKR's world.)

i'm actually horribly behind right now (by about 30 chapters of scanlations) but still, i love it so.

I just did a marathon reading session up through part 69, because I couldn't find a good place to stop. I kept biting my nails and wondering what Raito would descend to next, and hoping, in a half-horrified way, that he'd pull it off, whatever it was.

He has the same fascination for me that Steerpike (of Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast trilogy) does -- you know he's the villain, but you kind of hope he wins anyway.

and like a friend of mine was saying, you want him to lose except his plan is working.

Yeah. And the story is written in a way that makes it seductively easy to identify with Raito -- he starts out doing things it's easy to imagine doing, and by the time you realize he's a sociopath, you're used to kind of being on his side.

And his plans do work, and it's hard not to admire that, in a way.

I read through part 69 here, and am currently trying to get the next couple chapters downloaded from this site, but their download process is a real pain unless you're a paid member. *sigh*

Death Note totally owns me! Well...it used to, anyway. I stopped reading not long after [MASSIVE SPOILER], because L has always been my favorite character and it doesn't hold my interest enough to be worth the trouble of finding online anymore. Although, I've heard that it's coming out in the U.S. with a very creditable translation.

Mmm. Personally, I'm reading it more for Raito (I have a thing for really good villains, and when people can pull off the villain-as-protagonist, I like that even more), but L was a much better foil than Mello or Near. Well, foil in the sense of bringing out more interesting characteristics and responses in Raito, not necessarily in the sense of coming closer to stopping him.
